Every party on the Victorian Electoral Commission’s register, plus any unregistered party with publicly announced candidates — identical treatment. Ordered by seats currently held in the Parliament of Victoria (an objective fact about the sitting parliament, not a ranking by prominence). Independents are grouped for convenience; they are not a party.

Two different numbers. Cards show seats held in the sitting parliament and sourced 2026 coverage: Assembly districts (of 88), Council seats (of 40), and Council regions with at least one candidacy (of 8). Progress is both houses combined (of 128). A low coverage figure for a major party usually means missing public recontest sources — not absence from the ballot. Counts only candidacies with an individually-sourced record. Sitting MPs presumed to be recontesting but lacking a specific dated announcement are NOT counted, so parties holding many seats (notably the governing party) undercount relative to their likely ballot presence until each seat is individually verified.
2 of these are not on the VEC register. We list them because they have publicly announced candidates, but a party that is not registered when nominations close has no party name printed beside its candidates on the ballot — those candidates appear ungrouped. Registration status is shown on each party’s page.
